three fourty am

love isn’t always an overwhelming feeling. it doesn’t always hit you like a train, or wash over you with relentless tides.

sometimes it’s watching his smile from a distance while he’s with his friends.

it’s the sound of him loading the dishwasher in the morning before you’ve even gotten out of bed.

it’s the feeling of his hand reaching for yours as he’s driving.

it’s the soft breathing you hear next to you at night as he falls asleep.

it’s the way he gently pets his dog as he speaks to her in a quiet voice.

sometimes love is a combination of all the little moments that pile up into an irreplaceable feeling.

and because it was so subtle, so gradual, before you know it, it’s insurmountable.
