as i mentioned in my weekly blog post, i had such an eventful weekend, i felt i should give certain aspects their own attention. my friend’s siblings came to visit her this past weekend and so the days were filled with adventures and fun.
we started off our saturday at the national air and space museum. i hadn’t been there is over a year, so it was nice to come back. at the entrance there was this gorgeous mural, and i was so taken with it. i’ve always found space to be romantic in its own way – especially celestial bodies.
we explored almost all the exhibits, i really enjoy looking at all the different planes and learning about them, so i had a very good time. some parts of the trip were a bit forlorn for me because past memories at this museum, but it was nice to go back and experience it again.
a little after lunch time we headed out to go to a food fesitval. on the way there we passed a beautiful wall full of hearts. it was cold and windy – so pardon my pained smile, but i was happy to enjoy the colorful background.
the thing about the city is you never really know where inspiration will hit you. i don’t know why, but this sign in particular compelled me to take a picture. things like this really give a sense of character. it made me wonder how long the stickers had been there. who put them there? is that person happy? what are they doing now?
we arrived at our destination and it was ridiculously packed! there were many picturesque spots, but i loved this one in particular. the event was called the emporiyum. an excellent play on words, if you ask me.
i was able to try my first ramen burger! i could have done with more sauce, but overall it was extremely delicious. while wandering around the booths, i was hit with this sense of happiness. lately i’ve been able to try a lot of new things, and i couldn’t help but feel like despite the sad things in my life, some happy things have come of it.
of course, would it be me if i didn’t enjoy some ice cream as well? i was excited to see a nitro ice cream booth, and this particular flavor is apple pie. it was the best of both worlds, and i was quite satisfied.
after our food escapades (which i ate far too much, i might add) we headed out to the botanical garden. i absolutely love botanical gardens – there’s nothing more serene and beautiful than being surrounded by different floras. the one in dc is especially wonderful, and i’m proud to say this is my fifth visit.
each year they switch it up a bit by adding different decorations. the to-scale models of different landmarks were handmade with plant matter, which was especially charming. i really love the various architecture around dc, so these small replicas really made me smile.
everything was so lovely, i wanted to take pictures everywhere.
this flower, which was not labelled (to my dismay) had the most vibrant colors i’ve ever seen. i was so captivated by it, so i spent some time near it for a little while.
i finished up my visit with a trip to the top canopy area to get a full view of the main room. it really astounds me that they’re able to maintain so many different species in such a small space. i can’t wait to go back and enjoy the gardens again soon.
it’s been a while since i spent time in dc leisurely like this, so i was very happy to take the time and enjoy the city again. wishing you a happy wednesday ❤
